The sixth book in the phenomenally successful Harry Potter series by J. K Rowling, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince is, in all honesty, my least favourite book of the series. Nevertheless, it’s still a good read filled with action, horror, magic, romance, and love.
After facing the Dark Lord Voldemort for the second time since his return to his body, Harry has finally managed to convince the magical community that he has been telling the truth for two years. Now, with constant murders and disappearances occurring each day, Harry’s sixth year at Hogwarts is going to be the toughest one yet. Between his private lessons with Dumbledore, his enormous workload, and the fact that his least favourite teach is teaching his favourite subject, Harry’s going to discover that his real problems are only just beginning.
As is the case with any series, there is undoubtedly going to be that one book that you just don’t like as much as all the others. For me, the book that ranks last in the Harry Potter series is The Half-Blood Prince.
After all the angst and teenage aggression of the last book, Order of the Phoenix, you automatically know how Half-Blood Prince is meant to be read, however, this book is the book where the action-packed adventures are kept to a minimum and everything is about gaining information. It’s a real filler. Basically, this book is all about learning about one’s enemy, in Harry’s case Voldemort, and planning a strategy of how best to destroy him.
Everything about this book is more intellectual rather than physical and there are a huge amount of tiny, cryptic details that need to be remembered as they play a major role in the seventh, and final book.
Filled with action, adventure, horrific creatures, politics, magic, romance, and love, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince is my least favourite of the series, but that’s not to say that it’s not still a good book that I managed to get through in record time. I mean, there is always going to be one that brings up the rear right?
